At FD Basketball Academy, we don’t see Malta as a limitation — we see it as a starting point. A base where strong foundations are built, and from which young athletes can be prepared to compete on an international stage.
As we step into 2026, our vision is clearer than ever: to develop athletes in both basketball and chess who are mentally, physically, and strategically ready to compete beyond borders.
Malta offers a unique environment for youth development. It is safe, international, culturally diverse, and well-connected to Europe. These factors make it an ideal place to begin a long-term athlete development journey.
However, our ambitions extend far beyond local competition. From day one, our programs are designed with international standards in mind — because real development starts with the right mindset.
We are not training players only to succeed this season. We are preparing them for what comes next.
Basketball and chess may appear very different, but at their core, they share the same foundations:
Basketball challenges athletes physically and mentally in fast-paced, unpredictable environments. Chess develops strategic thinking, concentration, and long-term planning.
By combining both disciplines under one academy vision, we aim to develop well-rounded individuals who can think, react, and perform at a high level — on and off the court.
At FD Basketball Academy, we strongly believe that development must reflect real game situations.
That is why our individual and group sessions focus on:
We intentionally stay away from unnecessary “show drills” involving countless dribbles or movements that players will never use in a real game. Every drill we use has a clear purpose and direct translation to competition.
Individual sessions are not just extra training — they are a targeted development tool.
Unlike team sessions, individual training allows us to:
All our training videos are recorded at real speed. We do not slow down footage or manipulate content. What you see is real development, built through consistent work.
Our vision goes beyond technical skills.
As our academy grows, we are building a support network that includes:
Our goal is to help athletes and families understand that high-level sport is a system — not just training sessions.
In the coming years, our objectives include:
We also aim to become a consistent contributor to Malta’s youth national team structure by developing players with the mentality and preparation required at the international level.
If you are looking for a casual activity, there are many options available.
But if you are looking for structure, discipline, international vision, and a long-term development pathway — this is exactly what we are building.
Malta is our home. Our standards are international. And our journey has only just begun.
